A Beach Kind of Day

We just returned from a late summer beach vacation (Hayes' first!), and while others are getting ready for all things pumpkin, we're still holding onto the last days of summer and our fun get-a-way. So, to stay in the I-don't-want-cold-weather-to-come-too-soon mood, I created a rustic and sophisticated beach themed Etsy Treasury (a member-curated shopping gallery)! And, as usual, we're sharing it with you here on our blog!

Check out some of the details below, or visit the Treasury on Etsy! Here's a quick snapshot of it!

An Earthy Fall Feel

It's hard to tell these days exactly what season we're in given the ever-changing weather, but I think it's safe to say that Fall is now well under way! So, to get in the spirit, I created an "Earthy Fall" themed Etsy Treasury (a member-curated shopping gallery)! And, as usual, we're sharing it with you here on our blog!

Check out some of the details below, or visit the Treasury on Etsy! Here's a quick snapshot of it!

A Rustic Garden Party

We are officially in the thick of springtime, with warm temps, rainy days and green growth everywhere! So, I'm day-dreaming of an beautiful outdoor shindig with friends and family. Rather than just dream, I was inspired to create a little "Rustic Garden Party" themed Etsy Treasury (a member-curated shopping gallery)! And, as usual, I'm sharing it with you here on our blog!

Check out what I've pulled together to create an inspiration board for a rustic garden party! I'm sure you'll get the idea by browsing my Treasury, but I envision a early spring afternoon soiree with family and friends in a beautiful, but slightly overgrown, lush garden with fun rustic touches. Hopefully you'll be inspired to host a springtime get together too!

A Valentine Home

With only one week until Valentine's Day, I'm getting in the mood for some love! And, while I was managing our Etsy shop this week (which, I know, is terribly low on inventory, since we've been selling like crazy) I was inspired to create an Etsy Treasury featuring little touches to a sweet and LOVELY valentine feel at home. And, now I'm sharing it here on our blog with you!

Oh and don't you worry, we've got some great new Etsy items to list.. so check back soon!

Anyway, if you're not familiar with Etsy Treasuries, they are member-curated shopping galleries. As you browse Etsy, you can compile a group of items (usually related in some way) into a Treasury List and share them with other Etsy visitors. Mine is entitled A Valentine Home, and here's a snapshot of it on Etsy.

I've also included images of each of the items below. Check it out!

You know, Logan and I like to say we celebrate our love every day - versus just one day a year - so we don't usually make huge Valentine's Day plans. Instead, we'll usually just do a little something sweet together that day! We also don't usually decorate the house much for Valentine's Day, but right now I'm wishing we had some of these cute Etsy finds to help fill the house with love!

It's Still Fall!

I'm sure, like me, you've noticed that when November arrived stores, homes, and even design blogs have traded their pumpkins in for snowmen, and their warm rich earthy color palettes to cool crisp icy colors. Well, wait just a second! With the mildly chilly weather only now in full swing, beautifully colored leaves still floating to the ground and Thanksgiving just around the corner yet, fall is still here! Right? In fact, I am only now finally getting excited about all things fall. As you probably know, I'm not a huge fan of cold weather, but I do have to say the shift from summer to fall does give me a good feeling. It means it's time for cute sweaters, hot chocolate, warm earthy colors, yummy food, time with family, beautiful nature and scenery, etc. And, I've recently gotten to enjoy most of these.

Pumpkin roll!

So, before my warm fuzzy fall feelings turn into winter blues, I thought I'd browse a few of my favorite sites for some fall inspired finds, decor ideas, and the other lovely joys of fall.

Side Note: This last photo is actually from last year - fortunately we kept the mums and they came back this year.. unfortunately they came back about 1/3 as big and beautiful and do not look like this!

So, while most people may already be moving on to the Christmas season, I don't like to jump the gun. I'd rather enjoy the fall and the Thanksgiving holiday first. After all, I am very thankful for not-frigid weather (along with many other things, of course).

I hope today's post reminded you of the many joys of fall, and also hopefully reminded you to slow down sometimes. Christmas will be here soon enough. In the meantime, be thankful (hehe) for the fall!

The lovely images from today's post came from Etsy, Pinterest, BHG, West Elm, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and, of course, my camera!

Etsy Anyone?

We've been working on another side of StudioVB for a little while.. and that side is our Etsy shop! Maybe you've seen some of our recent posts on our Facebook page! We come across so many neat vintage home decor finds along our travels (while we are hunting for items for our design projects) that we began to snatch up any little thing we liked, thought was really cool, or couldn't leave behind.. even if we didn't have a home or a client for it just yet. So, after collecting quite a bit of these items, we decided that someone ought to have them, so we set up our Etsy shop to offer our designer selected vintage goods for the home.

If you don't know about Etsy.. shame on you!

Etsy Logo You really have to check it out. It's a online marketplace to buy and sell all things handmade and vintage (and also craft supplies). You can find so many unique items on Etsy and it's so simple to buy. I have been a buyer on Etsy for many years now, purchasing everything from wedding party gifts to unique home decor items to handmade accessories for myself! It can be addicting, so be careful! =)

I mean, take this for example, the image below is a snapshot of items for autumn/fall found on the Etsy Treasury (which is a member-curated shopping gallery). See all the amazing items you can find with just one search. Imagine the possibilities! Hehe.

Treasury List

Speaking of the Etsy Treasury, it's just one of the many cool features of Etsy! Etsy really is a community of creative people and it is yet another place to express your creativity, share ideas with others and get really amazing inspiration, not too mention make a living doing what you love!

Anyway, we have now made the transition from just an Etsy buyer to an Etsy seller as well. Here's a quick glimpse of our new online shop front, as of today.

Screen shot of our Etsy Shop.

We opened our StudioVB Etsy Shop just a few short weeks ago, with only a few small items. Since Etsy has been a side project that we tackle in the evening hours, it has been sort of a slow start (cataloging, photographing, uploading, listing, etc.) But, with only a few items listed on our shop, we had two sales in the first week, and another sale in the second week. Yay! So, we are excited about this new side of our design studio, and are encouraged to get more of our items listed! So, go ahead and visit our shop today, but check back often as more items will be added daily!

Shown below are our sold items. Woohoo!

Our sold items!

Oh and you'll notice our Etsy shop banner shown below states "Vintage and Handmade Items for the Home". Well, I thought I should clarify. For the time being, all the items listed on our shop are vintage finds; however, we will in the near future begin to add some handmade items as well.

Our Etsy shop banner.

Along our design journey, we also come across many items that have potential but just need a little "tweaking", a little love or a little creativity and can be turned into something new and unique. These items (along with some custom artwork or crafted items) will make up the handmade portion of our Etsy shop. We'll use our creativity (and our hands, of course) to create unique items from found objects, fabrics, materials and even everyday art or craft supplies. But, I am guessing those items will get listed in what I am calling phase 2 of the Etsy shop launch. Until then, we will continue to post the vintage items that are stacking up!

St. Patrick's Day Duds

Just a little note to say Happy St. Patrick’s Day! You know, I never quite got into participating in the “wear a particular color on a particular holiday” idea. I just never seemed to be interested in matching everyone else on that one particular day. It’s not that I don’t have holiday spirit, ‘cause I do! I mean, of course, I love to decorate for the holidays, but for me it doesn’t translate into fashion. In fact, I would probably say I’d specifically rather not dress for the holiday. But, I guess that’s just me – and don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind those of you who do. Clearly, it gives me something to talk about. : ) But nonetheless, perhaps St. Patrick’s day is really not the best holiday to be discussing this topic.. I suppose Christmas or Halloween are better examples. However, as I was out and about today, I couldn’t help but spot all of the people wearing bright green. I even saw a shamrock here or there! And to top it off, I even overheard someone say, “ohhh, I forgot to wear green today!” in a very distraught voice. I guess it’s a big deal to some.

Well, anyway, my point in talking about this is that halfway through the day, after becoming so aware of the amount of people who dressed specifically for the holiday, I looked down only to realize that I too had worn some sort of green today – unintentionally! Now my green was a bit more of a blue-green and I had a grey sweater over top, but in that moment of realization that I had actually participated in this holiday tradition, I wondered how many people who saw me had assumed I dressed for the occasion. That’s when I thought to myself, 'well, if for a moment when my eyes met someone else’s who was also wearing green, we shared a sort of “hey, we're in the same happy holiday club” camaraderie, then I was okay with that!' And, I guess that's what it's about.

So, maybe I’ll change my tune on this topic. Despite my original opposition to wearing a particular color on a particular holiday, while browsing esty.com this afternoon, I came across some lovely accessories that I’d be happy to sport as my little nod to the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Check ‘em out!

Spring green scarf

Handmade green flower necklace

Handmade feather hair clip

Green stripe messenger bag

Handmade fabric necklace

Handmade green felt flower brooch

Handmade woodland hood

Green crystal bracelet

And, I'll leave you with that!

Hope you all enjoy the beautiful weather (at least here in Midtown it is) on this St. Patty's holiday! Oh, and with the nice weather, I did get a chance to snap a few photos of our new ride - so, stay tuned, they'll be in the next post!
